True Worship (Part 7)

True worship must exalt the Lord Jesus, must be based on the Word of God, and must follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit taught, reminded, guided, inspired and moved His prophets and apostles to write the Holy Scripture (John 14:26; 16:13-14; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21); therefore, the Holy Spirit is the Author of the Scripture, and the Scripture is the very Word of God and the perfect revelation of the Creator to mankind that no one is allowed to add anything to or subtract anything from the Scripture (Rev 22:18-19). The Holy Spirit never contradicts the Scripture, and He has come to “testify of” the Lord Jesus and “glorify” the Lord Jesus (John 15:26; 16:14). Then, if any one assumes that he is filled with the Holy Spirit while his motives, thinking, words and deeds are not holy or according to God’s Word or glorify the Lord Jesus alone, he is only deceiving himself.

Many are pursuing signs and wonders without any concern about doing God’s Word. The Lord Jesus says, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matt 7:22-23).

The Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4), who created us (Job 33:4), regenerates and sanctifies us (John 3:5; Rom15:16), so we must humbly submit to Him and wholeheartedly rely on Him not on our ability, even in our worship: “worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh” (Phil 3:3). Without the Holy Spirit, the praying, singing and preaching in our worship profit nothing. The Lord Jesus says, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing” (John 6:63).
