Trust in God’s Mercy (Part 5)

It is not enough to know God’s mercy. You and I are to sincerely and perseveringly cry for God’s mercy to be upon us with our humility, submission and trust.

The Scripture records the faith of a woman of Canaan who trusted in the Lord’s mercy perseveringly and received His help. (Matt 15:21-28). She came to the Lord and cried, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.”  And her faith was tested. Firstly, the Lord Jesus “answered her not a word,” and His disciples besought Him, saying, “Send her away; for she crieth after us.” (If it were you, how would you react? Would you not need the Lord any more and go away?). Next, when hearing Jesus’ words, “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel,” the woman did not give up her trust but came and “worship him,” saying, “Lord, help me.” The Lord kept testing her faith and answered, “It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.” (If it were you, would you feel offended?). The woman humbly admitted her nothingness and unworthiness and said, “Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.”  She wholeheartedly trusted in the Lord’s mercy, passed the test and received His help. The Lord said, “O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt.” And her daughter was made healthy from that very hour.

Sometimes the Lord wants to test your faith and mine to see whether we sincerely humble ourselves before Him, submit ourselves to Him and perseveringly trust in His mercy until the end. Many arrogantly show that they will not need the Lord any more after they have cried unto Him but not been helped immediately. How about you? “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble (James 4:6). Please read our next article.
