Gate and Narrow Way Leading to Life (Part 5)
Following
the Lord in the Way of the Cross: The narrow way is not such an easy way as we think. It is
the way of the cross, of self denial, and of full submission. No wonder,
very few are willing to walk in it, but it is the way leading to eternal
life. The Lord Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no
man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). The Lord Jesus,
the Living Divine Person, is the only true Way leading us to the Father,
to Truth, to eternal Life and to Heaven. We are to follow the Lord with
our full dependence, submission and obedience, “He that saith he
abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” (1
John 2:6).
The Lord
Jesus challenges His followers, “If any man will come after me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke
9:23). Shall you and I be willing to deny ourselves and our own will to
follow the Lord and to do His will? Only doing God’s will remains for
ever and will lead us to Heaven, “And the world passeth away, and the
lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1
John 2:17) and, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven” (Matt 7:21). Doing God’s will is loving
Him, fearing Him, obeying Him, worshipping Him, serving Him, glorifying
Him, and living a godly life according to His Word (Luke 9:23; 10:27;
John 6:40; 12:26; 14:23; 1 Cor 10:31; 1 Thess 4:3).
When you
and I are willing to take up our cross to follow the Lord and to do
God’s Word, He will give us sufficient grace to do His will, “For it
is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure”
(Phil 2:13) and “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength
is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor 12:9). Thanks and praise be to
the Lord. Amen.
