A Humble Heart (Part 2)
God hates, abhors, and resists the proud like the wicked,
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination
unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent
blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in
running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that
soweth discord among brethren” (Prov 6:16-19), and “An high look,
and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin” (Prov
21:4), and “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the
humble” (James 4:6). The original term of “proud” means “showing
oneself above others, preeminent, superior.” The proud are usually
contemptuous and despise others, even do not know what the fear of the
Lord is. How can a puny sinful human being be proud and rebellious
against his almighty and holy Creator? God is kind and loving, so He
does not punish sinful men right away because He wants them to come to
repentance. However, they take God’s love and kindness for granted and
even more arrogantly speak or write blasphemous words against Him or do
wicked things against His Word “because sentence against an evil work
is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is
fully set in them to do evil” (Eccles 8:11).
However, the proud and sinful will never escape God’s
judgment because “God resisteth the proud” (James 4:6), and
“The LORD will destroy the house of the proud” (Prov 15:25) and
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall”
(Prov 16:18). Satan used to be a shining angel Lucifer, but he was cast
out into the earth and will be cast down to Hell because he proudly
exalted himself to be like God, “I will ascend into heaven, I will
exalt my throne above the stars of God… I will ascend above the heights
of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought
down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” (Isa 14:13-15). Do you
really have a humble heart? Please read our next article.
