A Humble Heart (Part 5)

In order to enjoy God’s blessings, you and I must humble ourselves before Him. Humility is to read and believe God’s Word with a submissive heart. Humility is to repent of our sins and receive the Lord Jesus as our Saviour. Moreover, we shall be more humble when we know the Lord and ourselves better.

Know the Lord and Ourselves: A person with his Bachelor degree may proudly look down on the uneducated but bow low to a person with a Ph.D or a scientist. A manager may proudly bully his staff but bow low to a CEO. A lightweight boxer may be proud of his strength but bow low to a heavyweight boxer. A robber despises and robs others but bows low in fear when he is handcuffed by a policeman or summoned to appear at a court. Dear friends, the more you know the Lord, even the almighty and all-knowing Creator and Judge with all supreme authority while you are only sinful creatures, the more you will humble yourselves and honour Him. The more you know the almighty, all-wise, loving and kind God, the more you love Him and put your trust in Him. Job argued with his friends to defend himself when they misjudged him in his trial, but after having met the almighty and all-knowing God, he said, “I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes” (Job 42:5-6). When seeing the holy and glorious LORD, the prophet Isaiah said, “Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts” (Isa 6:5). After many years of serving the Lord, the apostle Paul said, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief” (1 Tim 1:15).

Dear friends, do you really know the Lord and yourselves? Please read our next article.
