A Humble Heart (Part 7)
If you want to enjoy God’s blessings, you must have a
humble heart for “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the
humble” (James 4:6). Human nature is proud and rebellious against
the Lord and His Word, “For from within, out of the heart of men,
proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts,
covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye,
blasphemy, pride, foolishness” (Mark 7:21-22), and “Because the
carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be” (Rom 8:7). Some appear to be humble when
they encounter failures, illness, trials or difficulties, but when the
calamity has passed and the danger is gone and when they prosper again,
it is easy for them to be proud and despise others. To have a humble
heart even when you are promoted, prosperous and successful, you must
have a new heart reigned by the Lord Jesus when you sincerely repent of
your sins and receive Him as your Saviour. Then you must wholeheartedly
trust in the Lord, look at Him, and walk after Him each day.
Reading God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures, you will see the
Lord Jesus, who is the perfect Example for you to follow. The Lord Jesus
humbled Himself to wash his disciples’ feet and said, “For I have
given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you” (John
13:15). Those who believe in Him must “let this mind be in you, which
was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil 2:5): He is the Creator, but
“being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became
obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also
hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name”
(Phil 2:8-9). Truly, “every one that exalteth himself shall be
abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Luke 18:14).
The Lord Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn
of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto
your souls” (Matt 11:29).
Dear friends, have you humbly learnt of the Lord Jesus in
order to find rest unto your souls? Please read our next article.
