A Joyful Heart (Part 2)

The Lord Jesus confirms that neither anyone nor anything in this world can truly make you and me happy and satisfied for long. All that you have outside of your hearts cannot fill your empty hearts inside: degrees, houses, cars, wealth, money, jewelry, clothes, and even your loved ones. King Solomon was known as the most wealthiest and wisest king, but he shared his experience, “And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit” (Eccl 2:10-11). He had all things that his heart thirsted for and desired, but those things could not make his heart happy and satisfied for long.

Then, who is able to give you true and lasting joy? Only the Creator, who is the Lord and the Source of all blessings, “For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy” (Eccl 2:26). Are you living a good life pleasing to the Lord? Living a good life pleasing to the Lord is living according to His Word, the Holy Scripture, but “they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Rom 8:8). Living according to the flesh is living according to our human nature. The best that our human nature can produce is only like filthy rags before the holy God (Isa 64:6). Therefore, you truly need the Saviour Jesus Christ to cleanse your hearts from sins and then invite Him to rule your hearts and lives. The presence of the Lord in your hearts and lives is the true and lasting Source of joy and satisfaction even though you may not have the luxurious things that others have, “Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased” (Ps 4:7).
