A Joyful Heart (Part 3)

What do you usually do when you feel sad and bored? Many usually watch movies or TV, listen to music, read some books or novels, spend time in their hobbies, go shopping, go out with friends, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or do something to soothe their sadness away, but after that their hearts still feel sad and bored, not to mention many things in this world may easily take away their temporary joy: tiredness or illness, disharmony and arguments in family, difficulties, troubles or trials in life, stress at work, a broken relationship with others, hypocrisy or a double life exposed, misunderstanding, hatred, envy, covetousness, selfishness, hot temper, etc.

Dear friends, “For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy” (Eccl 2:26), you and I should wholeheartedly seek God first. King David shared his experience of joy when he was with the Lord, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps 16:11). The Lord Jesus says, “I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you” (John 16:22). Perhaps you may wonder, “How can I see the Lord or meet Him?” Dear friends, we cannot see the Lord with our physical eyes, but with our eyes of faith. The Lord Jesus Christ died for the sins of mankind, but He rose again and is living and is present everywhere, so when you wholeheartedly seek Him and His Word, He will open your spiritual eyes so that you may see Him and meet Him, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jer 29:13) and “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8).
