A Peaceful Heart (Part 3)

The first step for a sinner to have a peaceful heart is to repent of his sins and to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as His Saviour in order to be reconciled to the holy and righteous God. The next step is to trust in God’s sovereignty.

Trust in God’s Sovereignty: The Lord Jesus confirms the sovereignty of God, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father” (Matt 10:29). Sometimes we think that God is usually concerned for great events happening in the world’s history or in our lives but not for trivial matters. However, it is only human thinking. The truth is that God has concern for and control over both great events and the smallest matters that we may ignore, even the little sparrow falling on the ground is not without God’s permission and sovereignty, and the very hairs of our head “are all numbered” (Matt 10:30). Then, are not you and I more valuable than many sparrows? Why are you and I worried and frightened?

Joseph had experienced God’s sovereignty in delivering him from his trials when he said to his brothers, who had envied him and sold him to Egypt, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good” (Gen 50:20). Exactly as the Holy Scriptures affirm, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28). If you and I truly love God by keeping His Word (John 14:23), we shall not be scared of or worried about what may happen to us as we surely believe that God is able to make “all things” (both good and bad) work together for our good.

Do you truly believe in God’s sovereignty, love Him and keep His Word so as to enjoy His peace? Please read our next article.
