A Peaceful Heart (Part 4)

Do you really want to have a peaceful heart? First, you must repent of your sins and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour in order to be reconciled to the holy and righteous God. Next, you must trust in God’s sovereignty, and today we shall talk about fearing God and departing from sins and evil.

Fear God and Depart from Sins and Evil: God’s Word confirms twice that “There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked” (Isa 48:22; 57:21). Therefore, you and I should not envy those who do wicked things against God and His Word even when they seem to be successful, rich, or prosperous because they never have true peace in their hearts. Perhaps you will question, “I have never done any evil or wicked thing, why do not I have a peaceful heart?” Dear friends, before the holy God, even though you have never murdered, but if you hate others, you have murdered them in your hearts and minds already (1 John 3:15). You have never committed fornication or adultery, but if you embrace sinful lusts in your hearts, you have sinned already (Matt 5:28). The Lord Jesus says, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness” (Mark 7:21-22). If you neither fear, nor worship, nor believe, nor trust in God the Creator, that is evil before God already (Deut 17:2-7; 2 Kings 12:14; Jer 2:13; Heb 3:12). If you murmur against God, doubt God’s Word and cause others to doubt God’s Word, that is evil already (Deut 13:31-32; 14:11, 27, 37). If you have respect for the rich, contempt for the poor, or boastful pride, it is evil already (James 2:1-4, 9; 4:16), etc.

Dear friends, to have true peace in your hearts, you must fear God, worship God, believe in His Word, humbly trust in Him, departs from sins and evil and pray to the Lord for forgiveness. Please read our next article.
