Serving the Lord in Kenya and Tanzania

(Missionary Letter of Rev Mark Kim Kyung Soo, distributed by the IBPFM, USA, October 2007)

Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord. We hope that this letter finds you well in Him. We continue in our ministry, by God’s grace and by your prayers and love. We share with you some of the things He has done here since our last letter.

Bible College of East Africa—Kenya

It is currently one of the most scenic seasons of the year. The campus is filled with flowers that have bloomed for the flowering season. The students are busy with their studies and engaged in ministries. Please pray for our student Felix (from Rwanda), who visited his home during vacation but has not been able to return due to passport problems. We are praying that God will remove any obstacles to his resuming his training here.

This term, I am teaching the book of Exodus and Homiletics. As always, I need God’s wisdom and grace in this task. May all of BCEA’s faculty be used as instruments in encouraging students to become mighty in God’s Word and to fulfil their calling with effectiveness.

Mrs Yoon (wife of Rev Eben Yoon) is busily engaged in her ministry at the two kindergartens: one at the BCEA campus (58 children) and another in Ngomongo (72 children). Please pray for the teachers and for the little ones, that they will be soundly instructed during these important developmental years.

Brother Richard Tiu, who has been faithfully teaching and serving at the College for nearly two years, will return to the Philippines at the end of October. Please pray for him, that God will open the doors for him to return to BCEA with his family, should this be God’s will. We also pray that he will find much needed rest and refreshment after a long period of being separated from his family who stayed behind in the Philippines.

God willing, sister Eunyoung Bae (a graduate of Far Eastern Bible College and missionary in Cambodia for two years) will come to BCEA in December for a short term. She will be lecturing at the College and helping with the children’s ministry and administrative tasks. She hopes to confirm her calling during her time here. Please pray that He will graciously guide her to a path that pleases Him.

Please pray for 25-26 students who are due to graduate next year on February 5. Please pray for their remaining studies and particularly for God’s guidance in their future ministries.

Bible College of East Africa—Tanzania

The administrative and teaching responsibilities are borne by Pastor Peter Elibariki and Pastor David. Members of the faculty at BCEA (Kenya) have also been on rotation, teaching 2-week intensive courses. God willing, brother Judah Pallangyo, a BCEA graduate who is currently studying in Singapore and brother Joseph Amos, who is in his last term at BCEA, will be joining the faculty next year.

The kindergarten that was founded on campus is now attended by 30 children. Because it is the first such facility in the neighbourhood, the people of the villages are showing much interest. Please pray that God will use this ministry to reach the children and families in the surrounding community. May it be used as a channel of truth and the Gospel to the surrounding community of the college.

Please be in prayer for the artesian well that is to be dug for the water supply. We need wisdom in the selection of a contractor.

BCEA TANZANIA CAMPUS

East Africa Christian Alliance

The youth of EACA and female leaders of member churches were in attendance at a seminar held on the BCEA (Kenya) campus, with the theme: “Arise and Shine” (August 20-23). Over 400 from across the country were able to fellowship together in the Word and in prayer. Guest speaker brother Hyun Choi (son of Dr Kwang Jae Choi, ICCC president) and EACA leaders were busy with preparation and lectures. We are thankful to Glory B-P Church (Korea) for providing the expenses of the meeting, and pray that He will supply according to their needs.

Other Things to Be Thankful For

The Ngomongo Dispensary reopened in September, as God has provided a very faithful and diligent servant to serve at the clinic. He is a long-time member and deacon at the Bible College campus church. Thank you for praying for that ministry.

We are also very thankful for the Maasai chief who, with his many wives, had attended the Lenkijape Church at our Maasai station for many years. The transformative work of the Gospel in his life has surprised many in his neighbourhood. Recently he sharply refused an invitation to drink with his friends, and we do praise God for the work that God is doing there. May He give grace and strength to leaders of that community to be effective witnesses of the Gospel. The kindergarten and primary school now comprises 400 students. We pray that peoples of all ages will be emboldened to disengage from unbiblical cultural practices. Please be in prayer for the BCEA graduates who are serving at the Maasai station.

Rev Timothy Tow (my teacher) and his co-labourer Dr Jeffrey Khoo of Far Eastern Bible College have co-authored a Systematic Theology book, recently released on October 7. We just received news they shipped 494 volumes for the ministries here. We praise and glorify God, and pray that the book will be used to widen access to sound theology for local ministers.

Rev Eben Yoon has been serving the Lord with great diligence and faithfulness. We pray that the service of him and his wife will be fruitful and glorifying to God, resulting in the meeting of the Lord by many of the lost. We are grateful to be their co-labourers.

It is by His grace and by your prayers that we are able to press onward. We pray for those of you who have participated in this ministry sacrificially despite difficult circumstances. We trust that He “shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19). May He continue to guide you and use you for His Kingdom.

Verse for the Week:

The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. Prov 15:29
