INTRODUCTION TO YEAR
2008
Abiding in Christ!
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of
itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”
John 15:4
The word “abide” has a very strong connotation on staying power,
enduring, persevering, remaining, continuing,
dwelling (Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries, e-Sword v7.7.7).
The extent of this “abiding” power is likened to the persevering
love of God. The Bible is clear concerning the doctrine of the perseverance
of the saints in that God, “having loved His own which were in the
world, He loved them unto the end” (John 13:1b). It is also likened to
the Holy Spirit’s indwelling and abiding presence. “And I
will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may
abide with you forever” (John 14:16). This is indeed very
comforting!
In essence, God wants us to abide in Him as He has abided in us with His
everlasting love. We must continue in His love and allow God’s Word
to abide in us at all times with much diligence in every aspect of our
life. “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in
my love” (John 15:9).
As elected children of God, we are exhorted to exercise faith and love upon
Christ and cleave to Him with complete dependence and purpose of heart,
drawing life, grace and strength from Him. As we do so, Christ has promised
to remain with us, teach us, guide us and comfort us. We must also “bring
forth fruit” and our “fruit should remain” in Christ (John
15:16).
Since God desires us to abide in Him, why is it that we find it so
difficult to do so? We are often distracted and caught up with the things
of this world. We would rather be engaged in worldly pleasures and depend
on means other than Christ for help. Moreover, our quiet time with the Lord
is by no means “abiding in Christ”.
It is with heartfelt prayer as we embark on the theme “Abiding in Christ”
for the year 2008, our Lord would use these series of messages with the
enabling power of the Holy Spirit to help each and every one of us walk
close to God. Our focus is an exposition on John 15 with an indepth study
on the Greek Word, “abide” by our advisor, Dr Jeffrey Khoo. Indeed,
a close fellowship and communion with God is “more precious than rubies:
and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her” (Prov
3:15).
In addition, we are also embarking on the Bible study of the book of Ruth
in the second half of the year. We would also be having our regular monthly
meetings with Berean BPC whereby we search the Scriptures together
diligently. May the Lord use His Word to help us live a consecrated and
holy life for our loving Saviour, who loved us, suffered for us and gave
Himself willingly for us on the cruel cross of Calvary.
Soli DEO Gloria! (To God only be the glory!)
God bless all
who love Him in sincerity and truth,

People’s Fellowship (YPF)

A STATEMENT ON THE
PRESERVATION OF THE BIBLE
We believe in the divine, Verbal Plenary Inspiration (Autographs) and
Verbal Plenary Preservation (Apographs) of the Scriptures in the original
languages, their consequent inerrancy and infallibility, and as the perfect
Word of God, the supreme and final authority in faith and life (2 Tim 3:16,
2 Pet 1:20-21, Ps 12:6-7, Matt 5:18, 24:35).
1. We believe the Hebrew Old
Testament and the Greek New Testament underlying the Authorised (King
James) Version to be the very Word of God, infallible and inerrant.
2.
We uphold the Authorised (King James) Version to be
the Word of God—the
best, most faithful, most accurate, most beautiful translation of the
Bible in the English language, and do employ it alone as our primary
scriptural text in the public reading, preaching, and teaching of the
English Bible.
3. The senior members of the YPF shall affirm their
allegiance to the Word of God by taking the Dean Burgon Oath at every
anniversary: "I swear in the Name of the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy
Spirit that I believe "the Bible is none other than the voice of Him that
sitteth upon the throne. Every book of it, every chapter of it, every
verse of it, every word of it, every syllable of it, every letter of it,
is the direct utterance of the Most High. The Bible is none other than
the Word of God, not some part of it more, some part of it less, but all
alike the utterance of Him that sitteth upon the throne, faultless,
unerring, supreme."
