A More Sure Word

Stephen Khoo

The Apostle Peter in his second letter to all those who “have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ,” declares that the inspired, God-breathed written Word of God is “a more sure word of prophecy.” He is undoubtedly referring to the whole of the Old Testament prophecies, and in particular, the prophecies concerning the advent of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. He further exhorts his readers to “take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise” (2 Peter 1:19). Peter says that if we know the Word and obey it, the Word of God will light our path of life through this darkened world. Our life will be enlightened by the Word of God until “the day dawn, and the day (morning) star arise” — a reference to the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

My point is that we should never doubt the Word of God. We should completely trust it, believe it, and order our lives in the light of all that it teaches. One of the most assuring evidence that the Word is trustworthy and absolutely reliable is the fact of its fulfilled prophecies. For instance, the prophecies concerning the first advent of Jesus Christ were fulfilled to the letter. The prophet Isaiah’s prophecies concerning Jesus Christ, predicted more than 700 years before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, were fulfilled in every detail! The Word of God is true. God cannot lie.

Similarly, the prophecies concerning the second advent of Jesus Christ will also take place in God’s chosen time. We have already observed some of these prophetic signs being fulfilled. For one, we see the apostasy of the church – a falling away from the faith which was delivered to the first early Christians. Another prophecy that will take place, not too long from now, is the formation of a One World Order or Government as predicted in the book of Daniel (chapter 7:19–25), and the book of Revelation (chapters 13 and 17). We are presently witnessing happenings that will lead to the fulfilment of this prophecy. The present international support to fight terrorism in all forms is a significant step towards the formation of a One World Order. Before September 11, there was nothing that could motivate and unite the different and diverging nations. The unimaginable and impossible had taken place on September 11. This international support to eradicate terrorism hopes to bring about a more peaceful world, and trading and commercial activities can expeditiously and profitably continue for the welfare of the inhabitants of the earth. Any hindrances to obstruct this utopian dream by perpetrators of terrorism will be promptly and permanently dealt with. The world waits for one single man who is brilliantly intelligent and powerful, and who has the charisma to unite and lead all nations towards ushering an era of global peace and economic prosperity the world has never experienced. As the Word of God predicts, it will be fulfilled in God’s time. But when they shall say, “Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them” (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

Let us take heed of the Word of God. Let us diligently study it so that we can rightly divide the Word of truth and discern the will of our Father in heaven and do His will. The day will soon dawn and the Morning Star appears when man’s wish and work are done and no more. Let us therefore not be caught unaware because we are all the children of light. Let us look up to the blessed hope of the glorious appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
